A ready-to-eat cereal product contains a substantialportion of typical cereal grain component, such as bran, wheat andthe like, together with a therapeutic quantity of psyllium. Thequantity of psyllium is sufficient to reduce the cholesterol levelof humans and animals when part of the diet. The psyllium may beadded as an intermediate psyllium product prepared by directlyexpanding psyllium husks, either by itself or together with minoramounts of other ingredients. The psyllium intermediate ispreferably added during the process for making the final cerealproduct after the typical cereal grain components have been totallyor partially cooked.
