In a computer window display of a display system having a display surface of one or more physical screens, the computer window display being a multi-window display, a method for re-invoking previously-displayed software application displays comprises the steps of saving information which identifies an application display when the application display is invoked. When the application display is replaced, the information which relates to the application display is added to a history list. When the application display is requested to be re-displayed, the most-recent ID entry from the history list is fetched. The application display is then invoked for display.
