PRODUCTION OF TRANSGENIGS BY GENETIC TRANSFER INTO ONE BLASTOMERE OF AN EMBRYO

Transgenic animals can be produced by the selective introduction, for example, by microinjection, of exogenous genetic material into a blastomere of an early embryo in which all cells are totipotent. The other blastomeres of the embryo are eliminated. The surviving blastomere is provided with conditions conducive to growth and development of an embryo, in appropriate in vitro culture conditions and/or in the reproductive tract of an appropriate female animal.
