New compsns. comprise a major amt. of (1RS, 5RS)-5-methyl-exo-tricyclo(6.2.1.02'7)undecan-4-one of formula (Ia) and a minor amt. of (1RS, 5SR)-5-methyl-exo-tricyclo(6.2.1.02'7)undecan-4-one of formula (Ib). Also claimed is (Ia) with a purity above 90%. Also claimed is the prodn. of a compsn. as above by treating a mixt. of a minor amt. of (Ia) and a major amt. of (Ib) with a strong base.
