Reactive fluoropolymers, process for their manufacture, process for the manufacture of crosslinked, grafted or modified fluoropolymers and use thereof

Reactive and processable fluoropolymers are obtd. by the action of mechanical shearing force on a mixt. of (A) fluoropolymers contg. units of opt. substd. 2-8 C fluorinated alkene monomer(s) and opt. perfluorinated vinyl ethers, non-fluorinated olefins and/or non-fluorinated vinyl esters; (B) 0.3-7% cpds. contg (a) a double bond (I) which is able to undergo addn. reactions with radical polymer fragments, (b) pi-electron systems which are conjugated with double bond (I) or which have readily transferable H atoms in the allyl or benzyl position and opt. (c) other double bonds or reactive gps.; and opt. (C) other additives. Also claimed are (i) the above process for the prodn. of reactive, processable fluoropolymers; and (ii) a process for the prodn. of crosslinked, grafted or modified fluoropolymers by subjecting the above reactive polymers to radical addn. reactions or to nucleophilic or electrophilic substn. or addn. reactions.
