The following are claimed: (1) a diagnostic reagent comprising 4 antigens that are derived from a Borrelia afzelii membrane fraction and are selected from P870, P412, P402, P365, P315, P310, P280, P250, P230 and P180; (2) a diagnostic reagent comprising 4 OspC antigens derived from Borrelia RFLP types 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25 and 34; (3) monoclonal antibodies to immunoreactive P870, P412, P402, P365, P315, P310, P280, P250, P230 and P180 antigens derived from a membrane fraction of B. afzelii, and (4) immunoreactive P870, P412, P402, P365, P315, P310, P280, P250, P230 and P180 antigens derived from B. afzelii strain Orth.
