PROCESS FOR INCREASING THE PRODUCTION OF PENICILLIN G (BENZYLPENICILLIN) IN PENICILLIUM CHRYSOGENUM THROUGH THE EXPRESSION OF THE GENE pcl

Process for increasing production of penicillin G (benzylpenicillin) in Penicillium chrysogenum by expression of the pcl gene. The pcl gene codes for the enzyme phenylacetyl-CoA ligase. The pcl gene obtained from Pseudomonas putida U, and characterized by the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1, is introduced by means of recombinant DNA techniques, giving transformed CECT 20192 mutants, which show an increase of at least 10% in production of penicillin G relative to the untransformed control strains.
