The invention provides in compounds and compositions for killing both ecto and endo parasites which comprises administering to a warm blooded animal at least a systemically effective amount of an amidine of the formula I:wherein R represents an optionally substituted 5 or 6 member aromatic ring containing at least one nitrogen atom;Y represents an optionally substituted C₁-C₃ alkylene or alkylidene;A represents a hydrogen, a carbamoyl, a mono or di C_1-5 alkyl carbamoyl, a thiocarbamoyl, a mono or di C_1-5 alkylthiocarbamoyl, a sulfamoyl, a mono or di C_1-5 alkylsulfamoyl, an optionally substituted C_1-5 alkyl, an optionally substituted C_2-5 alkenyl, an optionally substituted C_2-5 alkynyl, an optionally substituted C_3-8 cycloalkyl, an optionally substituted C_3-8 cycloalkenyl, an optionally substituted aryl or -D-R₂, where D is O, S(O)_n' CO, CS or CO₂ ; n is 0, 1, or 2, and R₂ is a hydrogen, an optionally substituted C_1-5 alkyl, an optionally substituted C_2-5 alkenyl, an optionally substituted C_2-5 alkynyl, an optionally substituted C_3-8 cycloalkyl, an optionally substituted C_3-8 cycloalkenyl, an optionally substituted aryl;Z represents a hydrogen, an optionally substituted C_1-5 alkyl, an optionally substituted C_2-5 alkenyl, an optionally substituted C_2-5 alkynyl, an optionally substituted C_3-8 cycloalkyl, an optionally substituted C_3-8 cycloalkenyl;B represents a cyano or a nitro; andX represents CH or N; or its salt.
