The present invention relates to European strains of Porcine Reproductive Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) viruses having unique characteristics that are non-infectious to macrophages and methods for the production of such strains. The present invention also provides a vaccine for preventing pigs against PRRS based on PRRS and a method for producing such a vaccine.
