The present invention relates to novel non-rupture, sustained biocompatibility and biodegradable microcapsules that can be programmed to release active cores for various periods in the range of 1 to 100 days in an aqueous physiological environment. Microcapsules are polytide encapsulated in a matrix of poly (lactide / glycolide) copolymers as blends in uncapped form (freecarboxyl end groups) and end capped forms ranging in ratio from 100/0 to 1/99. Or cores of other biologically active agents.
