The present invention relates to a method for removing liquid contaminants from a surface, and more particularly to a method for removing oil spilled from a water surface. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method of removing liquid contaminants from a surface by applying a mat which is a nonwoven fabric having a substantially continuous aqueous foam coating on at least one side of the nonwoven fabric and the foam coating absorbing at least some of the liquid contaminants . The present invention also relates to a mat for removing liquid contaminants on a reusable surface and a method for reusing the mat.
