The invention relates to a method of image coding of an image in which images are divided and coded into their contours and textures. The texture coding step is performed by a lattice vector quantization method suitable for a coding scheme based on a region where the region may have any shape for an application to achieve a very low bitrate while maintaining good image quality.;Applications: Multimedia data storage, video and still image transmission.
