FIELD: nuclear industry and associated fields of activity. SUBSTANCE: -radiation from specimen of material being identified is measured in -quanta energy range of 40 to 3000 keV; This energy range is divided into energy sub ranges with known fixed boundaries. Recorded -quanta are integrally counted within these energy sub ranges and integral counts obtained are compared; material is identified by correlation between these counted values. Measurements are ceased either at operator's will or automatically as soon as desired number of -quanta recorded in all energy sub ranges is obtained. EFFECT: facilitated procedure. 6 cl
