The invention concerns a device which is used to generate heat and for electrochemical current generation. The device comprises a fuel cell (10) or a fuel cell stack (10) which is integrated in a burner (1). The waste gases formed in the burner supply at least some of the gas mixtures necessary for electrochemical current generation. In this way, heating burners can be operated independently of the mains supply, the degree of primary energy consumption is improved, and material problems in the fuel cell development are largely attenuated.
