The lamp control system controls at least one travel light (3) and an instrument illumination (8). So that the lamps as well as across allocated switches (21) can be switched on by the driver, as also at least partly automatically, by the operation of the vehicle. The instrument illumination (8) can be switched on exclusively by the driver across the allocated switch (21) together with the travel light (3). The control system (1) receives a first signal (X) from a first signal transmitter (11), with the vehicle in operational readiness. The control system receives a second signal (M) from a second signal transmitter (13), if the vehicle engine is operated. The control system switches on automatically a part of the front lamps, if the signal of the first signal transmitter is in existence, and switches on a further part of the front automatically, if the signal of the second transmitter exists.
