The device connects a component, especially an optical fibre ending in a ferrule (40). The connector has a housing part (2) which has a hollow cylindrical extension (4) with an insert channel (6) into which the ferrule is inserted. A slit sleeve (16) provided with an elongate slit (18) is received in the hollow cylindrical extension. The inner diameter of the slit sleeve is formed with a smaller size relative to the outer diameter of the cylindrical end part so that the slit sleeve expands elastically on insertion of the cylindrical end part and holds it. The sleeve is preferably made of a ceramic material. The end of the sleeve further from the insert opening may be received in an annular space (14) formed between the inner side of the extension and the outer side of an extension of an inner housing part.
