Protective system for large engineering equipment, vehicles and craft

The protective system for large equipment and vehicles (1), e.g. machine tools, motors, cars or boats, comprises a protective sheet, covering essentially all external parts of the item. It can be detached subsequently. The covering is an expanded elastic casing (2), with residual retractive stresses, taking the form of a plastic sheet. In order to operate the equipment, the sheet may be cut after application, without removing it, to expose regions as required, for operation. The method of application is also claimed. Preferably the sheet is a single sheet of polyolefin, or polyolefin copolymers. Alternatively it is a coextruded multilayer of these materials. Styrene butadiene styrene plastic is suitable. The sheet is a crosslinked plastic.
