A catalyst system (I) consists of (A) a metal complex of formula (1) and (B) a Lewis and/or a protonic acid. Also claimed are: (i) a method for the preparation of copolymers (II) of carbon monoxide and olefin(s) in the presence of (1); and (ii) fibre, film, moulded articles and coatings containing (II). In (1), R5 = H, 1-20C hydrocarbon, 3-30C organosilicon, NR6R7 or formula (1a); q = 0-20; R', R", R6-R8 = H, 1-20C hydrocarbon or 3-30C organosilicon; M = Group VIIIB metal; E1, E2, Z = Group VA element; R1-R4 = 1-20C hydrocarbon or 3-30C organosilicon; A1, B1 = 1-4C alkylene, silylene bridged organic group or NR8; L1, L2 = ligand; p, m, n = 0-4; and p = m*n.
