A central air conditioner unit (21) on a carriage roof (2) has internal ventilation grids (22) to take in fresh air, and suction pipes connected to the passenger space (12), for ambient air. A double air channel in the vehicle roof has cooling air and heating air channels (29,37), connected to the air conditioner. The cooling air channel has adjustable air outlets (34) to feed air into the seat area (14), but has no outlets in the carriage door areas (13). Air guide elements on the heating air channel feeds air into hollow door posts (7), and into floor channels (38) with outlets (39) in the central seat areas.
