The monitor checks a demodulated video signal of a transmission, which may have an added extra signal indicated harmful content for children. On detecting such signal, the monitoring device interrupts the signal flow to the television (TV) receiver screen. The monitor is connectable to the TV receiver via a Scart or other suitable socket and applies control voltage to pin No. 8, or the video output of the socket. In this way the demodulated output signal from a TV or external tuner is applied to the Scart socket video output used for the Scart socket video input. The monitor applies the checked signal to the Scart socket video input. If the extra signal is detected, the signal flow is interrupted, disturbed, or replaced by a given video signal by the monitor decoder (14, 16).
