Carboxylic acids or salts as wetting agents for aqueous pigment paste

The use of carboxylic acid (salts) of formula (I) as wetting agents for the production of pigmented varnish and paint is claimed. In (I), R1, R2 = 1-4C saturated hydrocarbylene; Y = H, sodium, potassium, ammonium or 1-25C amino cation; X = CH2, CO or NH. Also claimed are aqueous pigment suspensions containing 0.01-10 wt% (I).
