The device has an arrangement for setting it above a base or foot point, a tripod (1) contg. a bush with a through hole for attaching the device to a frame, an upper part (6) or sight rule with a telescope tube pivotable about a horizontal tilt axis, a device for horizontal alignment and horizontal position indication and a second device with a lens for forming the image of the base point on a photoelectrical sensor arrangement. The arrangement for adjustment above the base point is mounted between the tripod and the upper part, is fixed to the tripod and a has a vertical axle bush (12) contg. a hollow vertical axis (11) supporting the upper part. The axle and bush can be adjusted w.r.t. the tripod in the coordinates of the horizontal plane.
