The CD includes at least four outer points (1) on a circle (2) about the axis of rotation with a radius of 40 mm. No point of the CD is further than 40 mm from the axis of rotation so the CD can be inserted into the 80 mm slot of a CD read-write device. The CD has a maximised circular data region (3). The remaining surface between the outer edge and the data region is kept as small as possible, where still four relatively stable locating vanes (4) must be provided. The locating vanes should be symmetrical. The connection of the outer points forms a right angled quadrilateral (5) outside which no points of the CD lie. The resulting recess (6) can be used for guide ribs, reinforcement ribs or protective ribs of a transport adaptor or container.
