The infrared laser has two separate housings (21,22) coupled by bars of Invar, carbon fibres or similar high stability material. Within the evacuated inner volumes (22,24) are pairs of mirrors (3,6 and 4,5) that are set at 45 degrees to the horizontal waveguides (9) pass through the centre section and align with the mirrors and are of Quartz glass or metal tubes. A pump laser (25) provides an emission that is coupled to that (25) from the opposite end of the resonator unit. Internally the emissions are reflected by the mirrors set at 90 degrees to each other. ADVANTAGE - Minimisation of power losses.
