The method proposed enables an unknown impedance to be determined precisely by measuring successively the three complex transmission coefficients in a transmission path in which is disposed a measurement cell containing the unknown impedance or one of two known impedances. The method is a wide-bandwidth one and takes into account any mismatching between the transmission line and the measurement cell. The dielectric and magnetic properties of materials can be determined by means of these impedance measurements.
