Moulded Cu catalyst (I), for selective hydrogenation of furfural (II) to furfuryl alcohol (III), contains an intimate mixt. of Cu and pyrogenic SiO2. The average size of the Cu crystallites, determined by X-ray diffraction, is 5-50 nm; the Cu content is 10-70 wt.% of the total (I); and (I) may also contain 15 wt.% basic oxide.
