Monoesters of 4-hydroxy-phenyl-ss-D-glucose corresponding to the following general formula: IMAGE in which: R represents a linear or branched alkyl radical or alkenyl radical having from 5 to 21 carbon atoms or an alkapolyenyl radical having 9 to 21 carbon atoms or R represents a defined mixture of such alkyl, alkenyl or alkapolyenyl radicals. These monoesters find a use in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, dentibuccal and food sectors especially because of their thickening property.
