Process for increasing resistance of material to wetting by fluid involves submitting material (20 in figure) to treatment in pressurised tower (16) by nitrogen plasma in post-discharge into which is introduced, before or after the discharge section (12), a fluorine composition in vapour form. Also claimed is material treated by the process. Preferably material to be treated is porous polymer or composite polymer preferably in powder form. Fluorine composition is polyfluorocarbon compound or NF3. Pressure of gas inside tower = 1-200 hecto Pascal. Powder is held in suspension in fluidised bed in rotatory reactor and after treatment it is agglomerated in flake form for producing desired shape. Material is claimed which has been treated by the process. Material is also claimed which is additionally subjected to partial treatment by plasma produced by electromagnetic discharge of nitrogen; materials from both processes being mixed and applied in successive layers.
