A process for the preparation of the enol lactone of 2-oxocyclohexylideneacetic acid in which: 1) the glyoxylic acid is reacted with cyclohexanone in the presence of a halogenated acid in order to to obtain a crude reaction B1, then BR/ 2) is reacted that reaction crude B1 after solubilization in an organic solvent in the presence of a strong acid soluble in said organic solvent or strongly acidic resins in order to to obtain the enol-lactone of 2-oxocyclohexylideneacetic acid which is isolated if desired, BR/ and application to the preparation of 2-coumaranone. / P
