The device consists of a frame (2), which carries a hydraulic jack (3), which is fixed to the frame in a central and vertical position. A hydraulic pump (4) is fixed to the frame and supplies the jack. An attachment device (5) is fixed to the lower extremity of the rod (6) of the hydraulic jack and this is for attachment to the lifting element (7), which is adapted to fit into the central orifice of the cover. The frame is designed to be wider than the dimensions of the cover and is arranged in a roughly vertical plane, perpendicular to the direction of translation of the lifting mechanism.
