Test apparatus for supporting standard sized paper sample for mechanical strength testing

The apparatus is intended for use in conducting a 'ring-crush' test on a sample of paper or paper board. A section of paper to be tested is wrapped around in order to form a ring which is then held in a support groove. The width of the sample, the dimensions of the support and the diameter of the ring are standardised in order to allow standard measurements of resistance to crushing of the paper. The appts. includes a cylinder (34) with further support elements (36,37) which are intended to limit the buckling of the paper band during the test. The cylinder is such that it contains the roll of paper forming the sample, and may be made of two interlocking sections (36,37). The paper sample (30) is then compressed between an activating jack and a support plate in order to determine its physical strength characteristics.
