A method of forming a color image by an electrophotographic process comprising forming a peelable transfer layer on a surface of an electrophotographic light-sensitive element, forming a toner image by an electrophotographic process on the transfer layer, heat-transferring the toner image together with the transfer layer onto a receiving material, wherein the transfer layer has a stratified structure composed of a first transfer layer (T.sub.1) which is contact with the surface of electrophotographic light-sensitive element and is formed by an electrodeposition coating method using thermoplastic resin grains (AR) each containing a resin (AH) having a glass transition point of from 20. degree. C. to 140° C. or a softening point of from 30° C. to 180° C. and a resin (AL.sub.1) having a glass transition point of from -40° C. to 40° C. or a softening point of from 0. degree. C. to 60° C. wherein the glass transition point or softening point of resin (AH) is at least 2° C. higher than that of resin (AL.sub.1) and a second transfer layer (T.sub.2) provided thereon containing a resin (AL. sub.2) having a glass transition point of from -40° C. to 35° C. or a softening point of from 0. degree. C. to 45° C.PP The method can provide color images of high accuracy and high quality without color shear in a simple and stable manner. Good color duplicates can be obtained at a low temperature of transfer or a high speed of transfer irrespective of the kind of receiving material. Color duplicates obtained are excellent in retouching property, sealing property and filing property.
