PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb earthquake energy to prevent falling of a structure by providing the subject beam with an earthquake resistant elment equipped with a frame member, as a side plate element, composed of structural steel having an opening at its center and a board placed at the frame member to close the opening thereof and to easily generate distortion when subjeted to shearing force. ;SOLUTION: A side board 5a, top board 5b, bottom board 5c are connected to form an earthquake resistant beam 5, to which a diaphragm 5d is applied to serve as a reinforcing member for enhacing rigidity of the beam 5. A very soft steel board 4 are welded to an opening of a frame-like member composed of structural steel to thereby provide a structure of the side board 5a. With the use of very soft steel board as the material of the side board 5a, shearing yield load can be kept smallm and the board 5a can be yieled early to absorb energy. Also, ith the use of structural steel for the circumferential edge of side board 5a, rigidity thereof is enhance to give a high energy absorbing performance to the board 4. Accordingly, damage in a base part and a corner part of a rigid frame bridge can be suppressed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
