PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a duplex recording reproducing device which is strong against a fault and is enabled to read data demanded by an application program even if the fault occurs in another recording system disc succeeding to the fault of a recording system disc. ;SOLUTION: Plural recording parts #1 to #8 are divided into a recording system 1 and another recording system 2 and duplexed. Here, the device is equipped with a first processing which, when a fault occurs in the recording system 1, calculates a parity code on the basis of data of a recording part belonging to the other recording system 2 and stores it in a recording part other than the recording part to which the fault occurs out of the recording parts belonging to the recording system 1 and a second processing 2 which, when the fault occurs in the recording part in which the fault occurs and the recording part of the duplexed other recording system 2, restores data of the recording part generating the fault in the recording system 2 on the basis of the parity code stored in the recording system 1 and data of the recording system 2 used for the calculation of the parity code.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
