PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly dissolve a metal sulfide into mold flux at the casting temp. of stainless steel by containing a metal sulfide having a specific melting point in a specific quantity. ;SOLUTION: More than one kinds selected from metal sulfides having melting point of 800-1,300°C are incorporated in a mold flux base for continuous casting of a stainless steel by 1-20 wt.%. The metal sulfide is preferably FeS (m.p. 1,193°C), CoS (m.p. 1135°C), Cu2S (m.p. 1130°C), NiS (m.p. 810°C) or the like. FeS of low cost is particularly desirable. The flux as a base contains CaO, SiO2, Al2O3 as main components and an oxide or fluoride of alkali metal, a fluoride of a alkali earth metal, a carbonate of alkali metal or alkali earth metal as assistant components.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
