PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out the decolorization excellent in decolorization effects and compatible with photographic performances such as hue, stability and sensi tivity by blowing ozone into an aqueous solution of a specific merocyanine dye, especially a yellow dye for photography. ;SOLUTION: Ozone is blown into an aqueous solution of a merocyanine dye represented by the formula [R¹ is H or a monovalent group; R² is an alkyl; X is oxygen atom or C(R³)(R⁴); R³ and R⁴ are each an alkyl; R⁵ is an alkyl, an aryl, an (acyl)amino, ureido, carboxyl, an alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, an alkoxy, hydroxyl, cyano or trifluoromethyl; R⁶ is H, an alkyl, an aralkyl or an aryl; (n) is an integer of 1-4] to decolor the merocyanine dye.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
