PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide in a comparatively simple manner a method for preventing harms which are caused by birds and a spiral rod for preventing harm caused by birds, which enables taking a countermeasure against the harms caused by birds, over the entire length of an overhead line. ;SOLUTION: A spiral rod having an edge part on a side is wound spirally on the outside circumference of an overhead line 1 in such a way that the edge part faces outward. A sharpened edge 2a spirally surrounding the external surface of the overhead line 1 makes it hard for a bird to perch on. It is more effective to narrow the distance between rods, so that the range where a bird perches on can be limited by winding two spiral rods 2 diagonally on the outside circumference of the overhead line 1. Spiral rods for preventing harm caused by birds, which are formed in spiral in advance and have an edge part 2a on the outward surface of the spiral, are provided as the spiral rods 2. A recommendable cross-sectional shape of the spiral rods 2 is a triangle or a sector, having an edge part 2a at an angle.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
