PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly measure the distance from a measuring instrument to an object without contact by using the separated distance between an object and a measuring instrument before the movement as a reference value, capturing a part of the reflected light of an irradiation parallel laser beam by a CCD camera, and adopting the distance obtained by connecting the gravitational center points of the irregular granular assembly patterns of the reflected light. ;SOLUTION: With a parallel beam in which a laser emission wavelength is constant, a beam diameter has a proper area, a plurality of patterns among the irregular granular assembly patterns are selected by an image processing unit 13, and a distance obtained by connecting the gravitational centers points of granular patterns is set. The set distance between the points of gravitational centers and a reference value as the separated distance between the object 4 and the measuring instrument before the movement are set to be 1:1 in relationship, and the distance between the gravitational center points of the irregular granular assembly patterns of the laser reflection light of the object 4 moved forward or reverse in the optic axial direction of the CCD camera 12 is calculated. The moving quantity from the reference value of the object 4 is operated on the basis of the distance between the gravitational center points before the movement and the variable magnification of the distance between the gravitational center points after the movement.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
