PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject therapeutic agent capable of treating chronic renal insufficiency mediated by angiotensin-II in a mammal, by using a specific imidazole angiotensin II receptor antagonist compound. SOLUTION: This therapeutic agent comprises a compound of the formula (R1 is 4-CO2 H, SO3 H or the like; R2 is H, F or the like; R3 is H Cl or the like; R6 is a 2-10C alkyl, benzyl or the like; R7 is H, phenyl or the like; R8 is H, CN or the like; (r) is 0-2) and/or its salt. 2-Butyl-4-chloro-1-[(2'- carboxybiphenyl-4-yl)-methyl]-5-(hydroxymethyl)imidazole or the like is preferable as the compound of the formula. Generally a daily dose of 10-100 mg is preferably administered once or dividedly twice or more. The active ingredient can be orally administered in an administration form of capsule, tablet, powder, suspension or the like. The active ingredient can be parenterally administered in the administration form of a sterilized liquid.
