PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an exterior container for a sodium-sulfur battery that can form a corrosion resistant layer that has high adhesion to a backing container and is uniform in thickness and composition. SOLUTION: This method is used to provide an exterior container 6' on which a corrosion resistant layer 17 is formed by applying a corrosion resistant layer material containing at least raw material powder of the corrosion resistant layer on the inside surface of a backing container 16, heat treating the corrosion resistant layer material, and melting and diffusing the raw material powder of the corrosion resistant layer. In the case of the raw material powder of the corrosion resistant layer, the percentage content of Cr (w) is in the range of 15 to 35 wt.%, that of Mo (x) is in the range of 2 to 12 wt.%, that of B (y) is in the range of 0 to 10 wt.%, that of Si (z) is in the range of 0 to 10 wt.%, and the remainder is Ni and inevitable impurities.
