PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the refractive index of a liquid without lowering its measuring accuracy even when the amount of the liquid as an object to be measured is very small and even when the liquid is a scattering body. ;SOLUTION: In a measuring method, a liquid 200 which is placed, so as to be brought into close contact, on a sample base 1 with a known refractive index is irradiated with low-coherence light from a light source 10 via the sample base 1, backscattered light which is reflected by the boundary face between the sample base 1 and the liquid 200 is detected by a photodetector 70, and a refractive-index computing means 80 computes the refractive index of the liquid 200 on the basis of the intensity of the backscattered light and on the basis of the refractive index of the sample base 1.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
