PREVENTION OF SOIL PEST BY FUNGIVOROUS NEMATODE, APHELENCHUS AVENAE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the effective suppression of the damage of farm products by soil pests and that of the growth of plant parasitic nematodes without accompanying pollution and environmental problems due to chemicals in practical farming by using fungivorous nematode, Aphelenchus avenae, because a large scale production and long term storage of this nematode are possible. SOLUTION: To the soil containing soil pests for plants, fungivorous nematode, Aphelenchus avenae is inoculated and the soil is mixed. Then, seeds of a plant are sowed. Examples of the soil pests include Rhizoctonia solani, a soil pathogenic filamentous fungous causing cucumber damping-off. It is preferred that Aphelenchus avenae in an amount of at most 200,000 heads are inoculated to 1 litter of the above-mentioned soil. Further, the large scale production of Aphelenchus avenae may be carried out by sterilizing solid medium or the like comprising vegetable industrial wastes or byproducts by heating and then inoculating the abovementioned nematode after or on the inoculation of feed filamentous fungi for the nematode and then culturing it.
