PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to secure the color representation of an image which is observed in different ambient environments. SOLUTION: In this method, the signal that represents an original image is produced. Then the original image signal is mapped to secure adaptation of color representation for an image that is reproduced to the original image through the conversion which varies the image luminance contrast by using such coefficients as substantial 1.01 to 1.15 set to the original image that is observed in a bright ambient environment to the image that is observed in a mean ambient environment and reproduced, as 1.01 to 1.22 set in a bright ambient environment to a gloomy environment, as 1.01 to 1.29 set in a bright ambient environment to a dark environment, etc.
