PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the thickness of a heat insulating structure without reducing the heat insulating performance by forming an annular space opened upward between a vessel and a support material mounted on the inner surface thereof, and arranging the heat insulating structure within the annular space. SOLUTION: Liquid sodium 12 stored in a reactor vessel 11 is heated by a reactor core to high temperature, and a heat insulating structure 21 is provided in the boundary between the liquid sodium 12 and a gas phase 13 formed thereon over the whole circumference of the reactor vessel 11. The lower end of a cylindrical support material 22 is fixed to the inner surface of the reactor vessel 11 near the ceramic heat insulating structure 21. An annular space 23 opened upward is formed between the support material 22 and the reactor vessel 11, and the heat insulating structure 21 is housed in the annular space 23. The heat insulating structure 21 is divided into a plurality of pieces along the circumferential direction of the reactor vessel 11. According to this structure, the thickness of the heat insulating structure 21 can be reduced without reducing the heat insulating performance.
