2,2'-BIS(DIARYLPHOSPHINO)-6,6'-BIS(TRIFLUOROMETHYL)-1,1'-BIPHENYL, TRANSITION METAL COMPLEX CONTAINING THE SAME AS LIGAND AND PRODUCTION OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE 3-HYDROXYBUTYRIC ACID ESTER OR ITS BETA-BUTYROLACTONE
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as a ligand giving complexes having highly catalytic performances as catalysts for asymmetric syntheses and giving sufficient effects on the aspects of selectivity, conversion, optical purity, etc., in target reactions or in used reaction substrates. ;SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (R is phenyl or phenyl substituted by a lower alkyl, a halogen, etc.), e.g. (-)-2,2'bis(diphenylphopsphino)-6,6'-bis(trifluoromethy)-1,1'-biphenyl. The compound of formula I is obtained e.g. by condensing a 1-halo-3-trifluoromethylbenzene of formula II with a diarylphosphinyl halide in the presence of metal magnesium in an inactive solvent, lithiating the product, reacting the lithium compound with iodine, subjecting the product to Ullmann's coupling reaction in the presence of copper power in an aprotic polar solvent, optically resolving the obtained recemate of formula III and subsequently reducing the (+) isomer or (-) isomer with trichlorosilane.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
