PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reform methane with CO2 without deteriorating a catalyst while ensuring high activity and suppressing the deposition of carbon when Ni is used as the catalyst and to produce a metallic catalyst carried by a highly dispersing and heat resistant alumina aerogel and used in the reforming. ;SOLUTION: An Ni-Al2O3 aerogel catalyst contg. nickel highly dispersed in an alumina aerogel is produced by a sol-gel process and the successive supercritical drying and a methane-contg. gas is brought into contact with a CO2-contg. gas in the presence of the catalyst. The catalyst is produced by adding ethylene glykoxide of a metal such as nickel to a boehmite sol, converting the sol into gel with a pH control agent and them carrying out drying, firing and reduction with hydrogen.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
