FAULT RESTORATION METHOD FOR LIBRARY TYPE DISK ARRAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the automatic replacement of a faulty physical disk and the automatic restoration of data in order to decrease the maintenance works and also to improve the system reliability by ejecting the faulty physical disk after specifying its address and inserting a standby physical disk to return a degenerated logical disk to its redundant constitution. ;SOLUTION: If one of (n) pieces of physical disks (2≤n) constructing a logical disk has a fault, this event is reported to an OS(operating system) of a main body system 1 from a library type disk array device 3. The OS degenerates the logical disk that has a redundant constitution due to the faulty physical disk and specifies the address of the faulty physical disk. An accessor mechanism is instructed to eject the faulty physical disk of the specified address and to send it to a faulty physical disk saving area 8. At the same time, the accessor mechanism sends a standby physical disk from a standby physical disk store area 9 and puts it into the address.
