PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform emphasis processing of optimum edges by calculating the difference of luminance with ambient pixels or the difference of an alternate value of the luminance as a vector value and deciding an emphasis element of the edges, deciding a sharpness degree of an image based on the totalization processing result. SOLUTION: In an image processor 20, an image data acquiring means acquires image data from an image input device 10, and an totalization processing means calculates and totalizes a vector change degree based on a gradation value of luminance in each pixel. Also, an edge emphasis element deciding means decides an emphasis element of an edge based on the totalization result. Further, an edge emphasizing means performs emphasis processing of edges of each pixel and outputs them to an image output device 30. The device 30 outputs image data is undergone edge emphasis processing with pixels in a dot matrix shape. This emphasizes the edges of an image whose sharpness is dull and corrects it to have a sharp feeling.
