PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oxidation catalyst capable of stably removing NMHC (unburned hydrocarbon) in a combustion waste gas containing excessive oxygen over a long period of time by oxidation by supporting a particular amount of a noble metal on an alumina support. ;SOLUTION: An NMHC oxidation catalyst is effective to an exhaust gas containing a small amount of unburned hydrocarbon excluding methane and exhausted at a temperature of 300-550°C such as combustion exhaust gas exhausted from a cogeneration system, gas fan heater system and the like. The catalyst is constituted of alumina and platinum supported thereon and support amount of the platinum on the alumina is set in a range of 0.25-3.0 g per 1 g of alumina (0.25-3.0 wt.% to alumina). When the catalyst is used as a metallic or ceramic honeycomb body, alumina catalyst supporting platinum is supported within a range of 100-200 g/L.
