PURPOSE: To make dampers consume seismic energy to provide enhanced damping effects by connecting together a built-up column and a hanging floor which constitute a large-span frame, via the dampers alone or via a combination of the dampers and springs. ;CONSTITUTION: A hanging floor 4 is suspended from the beams of a large-span frame by means of hanging members, and the required large space is formed below the hanging floor 4. The hanging floor 4 is notched to fit the outer shape of a built-up column, and expansion joints F are formed. Four cylinder type elastic dampers 5, for example, are each joined to the hanging floor at one end and held in place at the other end along a cruciform connecting beam 2 which is a part of the built-up column, so as to be able to respond to displacement in all directions within the plane of the hanging floor. Since the hanging floor can be regarded as the added mass of a building and the hanging floor is joined to the built-up column via the dampers alone positively or via both the dampers and springs, a high damping effect can be obtained even from the damping force of the dampers, and resistance to earthquake inputs and the resistance of the hanging floor to vertical loads are enhanced by the built-up column of the large-span frame.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
